“This Means War!”

When I was the youth minister at First Baptist Church in Brookhaven during the early & mid-90’s, we had a DNow weekend which had as its theme, “This Means War!” During that weekend, we helped our students understand some of the facets of this thing called spiritual warfare.

Now that I’m a senior pastor, I’ve discovered that this thing called spiritual warfare just goes on & on. It’s real, it’s intense, it’s persistent, & it’s going on right now! Our enemy is coming against us on many different fronts, & we have to be ready to take our stand (Eph. 6:10-11).

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  (NLT)

Satan’s primary warfare tactic is to attack is our minds. That is the real battlefield! Protecting our minds from his assaults is a key component for any Christ-follower to experience a measure of victory in spiritual warfare. Filling our minds with the Word is SO important! Daily intake of the Word through a specific plan for Bible reading is a great way to do this. Also, Scripture memorization is another important discipline for spiritual growth & maturity. Participating in more in-depth Bible studies on an individual basis & in small groups will also deepen our understanding of our place in Christ, & help us have a firmer place to stand when the enemy’s attacks begin.

So, dig into the Word, Christ-follower, & be ready to stand strong in the Lord & in the strength of HIS power!
